STA Podcast with Matthew Buxton MSTA: Ahead of the STA’s Technicals to Trading Systems Conference
Another in the series of STA podcasts conducted by Board Member Gerry Celaya, this time with Matthew Buxton, CEO and Head of Algorithmic Trading at London’s FTP Capital since November 2020. Matthew will be the final speaker of the one-day conference, to be held at One Moorgate Place on the 16th April 2024 – and also virtually. Gerry warns him that he must ‘’knock everybody out’’.
Starting out as an Information Technology expert after graduating from Nottingham University, he spent many years working with oil traders at PVM Oil Associates which was then merged with TP ICAP. He and Gerry agree that the progression from IT or engineering to managing money is a very natural one, especially where algos are concerned. Energy markets continue to be central to his work.
The title of his talk is: ‘Dare I Mention the ‘F’ word?’, a theme often used by STA Chairman Eddie Tofpik. Matthew readily admits that he uses a combination of technical indicators, mathematical modelling and fundamental analysis. He believes that when all three agree on a market trend, this is the golden ticket, something Gerry’s Red Tower Associates also use in their analysis.
I think many will find this presentation very interesting.
