An Insightful Evening of Market Perspectives at ICAEW’s Chartered Accountants’ Hall
Last night, the elegant Chartered Accountants’ Hall in Moorgate, City of London, played host to a memorable event titled “Market Outlook for 2025 Part I: Fundamental vs Technicals Perspective.” Organised by the Society of Technical Analysts Limited (STA) in collaboration with the ACI UK Financial Markets Association, The Broker Club, and the Commodity Trading Club, the evening was a treasure trove of market insights, thoughtful discussions, and meaningful networking opportunities as well as enjoying the dynamic exchange of ideas presented by an exceptional panel. The event featured:
• Paul Horsnell of Standard Chartered,
• Tom Pelc of Fortu Wealth, and
• Saeed Amen of Turnleaf Analytics.
Moderating the discussion was the capable Sam Horowitz, an Executive Committee Member of ACI-UK.
A Deep Dive into Market Outlooks
The evening focused on key themes driving financial markets as we enter 2025. Inflation trends in the US, Eurozone, and UK, alongside the ongoing impact of tariffs, were thoroughly discussed. The session also touched on the remarkable performance of Bitcoin, which not only shone as the best-performing asset class last year but has also delivered consistent growth over the past 14 years, capturing the attention of professional investors.
Predictions for 2025 included:
• The US Dollar: Expected to maintain its upward trajectory.
• Equities: Forecasted to face initial turbulence before closing the year on a higher note.
Eddie Tofpik, Chairman of the STA, delivered a warm welcome and took a moment to recognise long-standing contributions within the organisation.
Special honours were awarded to Tom Pelc, who received an STA Fellowship for his significant contributions to the field of technical analysis.
Additionally, Mark Tennyson D’Eyncourt was lauded for his remarkable 40 years of service to the STA board.
Networking and Camaraderie
The formalities transitioned seamlessly into informal networking, with attendees enjoying a well-deserved glass of wine. It was a great opportunity to connect with like-minded professionals, share perspectives, and strengthen industry ties.
The clue in the event’s title—”Part I”—hinted at more to come. Attendees and aspiring participants are encouraged to join STA, ACI UK, The Broker Club, or the Commodity Trading Club to ensure they’re part of the conversation when “Part II” rolls around.
Stay tuned for more updates on the STA events, and let’s continue navigating the fascinating world of market trends together.
