Round the Clock Trader: supported by the STA
Remember, remember the 5th of November – and while most of the UK was planning bonfires and baked potatoes, traders had quite another fish to fry. Organised by Simon Campbell who has several years’ experience under his belt, the Connaught Rooms in London’s Covent Garden were booked for a jam-packed day of presentations, tips and networking; technical analysis one of the many topics covered.
Almost 800 signed up to attend, with speakers throughout the day on five different platforms at this well known space. It was the first of its kind on a Saturday (so far these conferences have been organised on week days) and the appeal was obvious. Interestingly spread-better ActivTrades.com will also be holding an event for investors on Saturday 19th November in Mayfair.
Karen Jones, head of marketing for the STA said, ‘We thought it would be a good opportunity to expand our brand awareness and we particularly liked the demographic of the event. It was mainly a retail crowd but not beginners, and the organisation has been running trading webinars since 2014. As a consequence they had built up a following of experienced and active traders. It just seemed a perfect audience to advertise the fact that our diploma Part II course starts in January.’
As an added bonus STA members got in for free, and jolly glad I was to see some familiar faces as I prepared to talk to I don’t know how many for the presentation I had agreed to do on behalf of the STA; star billing on the big stage and nevertheless it was standing room only. Titled ‘FX Trading with candles and clouds’ I think the topic was of interest to many and the niche aspect of Ichimoku grabbed others. My daughter Lucinda willingly came along for moral support but I’m afraid her forte is not photography. I submit these pics as burnt offerings.
Meanwhile over at the STA’s stand, set up and manned by Katie Abberton (STA administrative services) who has this to say: ‘I very much enjoyed manning the stand and introducing the Society of Technical Analysts to the attendees – the event had a great buzz about it and aroused lots of interest. Quite a few had never heard of the society so it was good to enlighten them on what the STA offers in terms of networking, monthly meetings, TA resources, education courses and qualification. The audience was a mixture of experienced traders looking for new ideas and total beginners, all of whom were interested to learn more about what the STA could offer. David Watts and other members also kindly gave up their time to man the stand – so huge thanks go to Chris Winterhoff, Mark Hoskin and Simon Gray for all their help.’
A first for the STA – who knows what the future may bring – because of course, we are in the business of forecasting!
